Galen leitzel
Galen Leitzel has a 49-year career in music as a conductor, adjudicator and performer. He spent 36 years working in the public schools of PA. Currently Dr. Leitzel has served as Adjunct Instructor at West Chester University and Elizabethtown College, and is the Music Caption Chair and Jazz Chair for the Tournament of Bands/National Judges Association. He has been Musical Director of the Lyric Band since 2002.

Dr. Leitzel received his Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Mansfield University in 1975, a Master of Music degree in Saxophone Performance from Ithaca College in 1982, Music Supervision certification from Millersville University in 1997, and his Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education/Conducting degree at Shenandoah Conservatory in 2006.

Dr. Leitzel has been recognized by his nomination in 1990 for the Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year Award, being included in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and Who’s Who in America in 1991. Dr. Leitzel has served as guest conductor at the 2003 PMEA District 7 Youth Band Fest, the 2012 Adams County High School Honors Band and the York Middle School Honors Band in 2014.

Dr. Leitzel is an active musician on saxophone and has been a member of the Lyric Band of Hanover since 1990. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Kappa Kappa Psi Honorary Band Fraternity. Dr. Leitzel lives in York, PA with his wife, Jennifer.
